Accommodations vs. Modifications


What is an Accommodation?


Accommodations are changes to how a child learns the material while still meeting standard expectations.


Examples of Accommodations:


  • Preferential Seating

  • Audio Books

  • Extra/Extended Time


What is a Modification?


Modifications are changes to the curriculum or how it is taught, including specialized instruction


Examples of Modifications


  • Specialized instruction-certain subjects being taught by an ESE teacher

  • Alternate work/tests/homework

  • Varied grading standards

  • therapies: speech therapy, language therapies, occupational therapy, physical therapy
